Art Attack... At Scott Library?!

This is a follow up to a blog post I did last year called Art Attack... at York?!
This time however, we're checking out "Art Attacks" at Scott Library. Scott Library is York University's largest library on campus, making it the main library at York. You can find hundreds of students there every day studying for their next exam, or working on their latest essay. You can also find some cool art!

Today I walked around and took some pictures of my favorite art at Scott...

This picture you'll see as soon as you walk into Scott

These three pictures are from the same corner

Nice to see when you enter the library to do school work :)
Hope you've enjoyed a taste of Art at York! Maybe I'll think about doing a Part 3? :P

Commuting... IT ISNT BAD!

I remember the summer before my first year at York University. I was uber upset about being a commuter! The idea of living on residence, and having the "on campus experience" was so appealing. Unfortunately, costs and the fact that I lived close enough prevented me from getting that opportunity.

I know I'm not the only one! Almost everyday I hear students say "unfortunately no", when asked whether they would be living on campus or not. However I am here to say... ITS NOT BAD! Want to know why? York University has provided me with so many opportunities that I can definitely say I had the "on campus" experience during my first year!

Clubs, sports, college councils, and working on campus have all contributed to what I call "the best first year experience possible" and it was all while being a commuter!

Don't believe me? These pictures show all the fun stuff I got a chance to do ON CAMPUS during my FIRST YEAR! ;)

The week that started it all! Vanier Frosh Week 2009!

My RAGE DODGEBALL team!

Rage dodgeball in action!

Vanier College Council! I joined as a First Year Rep

On campus event: SKATING!

ROCKCLIMBING hosted by my college

End of year FORMAL!
As you can see, you can have just as much fun as resident students even if you are a commuter. In fact... being a commuter, you get extra benefits like getting your laundry done and having your lunch made ;)

Now go out there and find some clubs, and councils you want to be involved with!!!

Free (legal) Movie Rentals

With many movie rental shops disappearing before our eyes, it can be tempting to surf on the web for a free view of a movie you've been dying to see.
Tempting but let's keep in mind that even that comes with challenges: too long to load, bad quality, broken links, constant pausing, and the legal risks are all pains of streaming movies from the net... there's gotta be a better way!

"THERE'S GOTTA BE A BETTER WAY"

STOP THE MADNESS with your local... SMIL Library!

What's a SMIL?!
SMIL stands for Sound and Moving Image Library.

What's a SMIL do?!
The SMIL library allows students to take out movies, documentaries, and feature films for FREE!

Where's a SMIL?!
The SMIL library is located inside the first floor of the Scott Library! The Scott Library is located in Central Square!

Why should I SMIL?!
By taking out movies, documentaries, and feature films from the library you will be enjoying movies for free, from the comfort of your own home, and legally! You will usually have up to 7 days to return your movie. In addition movies the movies are actually up to date, with recent releases available to rent.

SMIL FTW!
